I speak today as a former hater of QB online (QBO). I wrote a post back in 2020 expressing what might be summed up as loathing for what is probably currently the number one platform for small business bookkeeping in the US. And today, I am … reformed… how did THAT happen?
Like many such situations, it took time. Time for me to roll up my sleeves and dig into how QBO works and is different from QB Desk Top… Time for Intuit to improve QBO (and stop improving QBDT).
It also helped that I found a lot of resources and tools to help QBO work better.
These days I find I like a lot of features of both platforms. QBDT still has more robust reporting options (for the most part), navigating about the system seems easier. It is less glitchy than its online counterpart.
But increasingly I am finding myself able to be nimble while navigating QBO and learning more of the intricacies of its functioning. I waste less time than I used to.
And the price differential has become a lot smaller because the price of QBDT skyrocketed.
I can see the writing on the wall. Intuit will be phasing out QBDT over time. I needed to be ready to have all my clients move online when they need to. And now I am.
